At our camp, every child is a superhero, and we are committed to providing the support they need to thrive!
We welcome all children, including those with special educational needs, disabilities, or behavioural challenges, to join in and fully enjoy our camp experiences. We're committed to working closely with local authorities and relevant agencies to ensure our procedures align with the latest Department of Education guidelines. This ensures early identification of needs and allows us to provide the best possible care and support for every child in our camp.
The Camp Manager is the designated person responsible for overseeing special educational needs and disabilities at our camps. We strive to make our facilities and activities as accessible as possible, adapting to meet the needs of all children based on their age and individual requirements. Any child with additional needs will have their needs met, where feasible, and we monitor each child's progress daily to ensure they are supported appropriately.
While we are happy to welcome all children, we are not able to offer 1:1 supervision as part of our regular staffing ratios (1:8 for children under 8, and 1:12 for children over 8). If a child requires 1:1 support, we ask that the child attends with their own carer. The carer must have an up-to-date, clear Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check, and we require a copy of this certificate to be submitted to our HR team and camp management before the child's first day at camp.
Our staff are trained in line with the Department for Education’s SEND Code of Practice (0-25 years) and the latest safeguarding guidelines (KCSIE). If we believe that a child may require additional support that hasn’t been identified by their parent or guardian, we will discuss this with the family as soon as possible. Any such matters will be handled with the utmost confidentiality, and reasonable adjustments will be made to meet the child’s needs wherever possible.
We review and update our SEND policy in line with any changes to relevant legislation and continue to liaise with agencies like the Early Years Development and Childcare Partnership (EYDCP) to ensure we are following best practices.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss how we can support your child, please don’t hesitate to contact our Camp Manager or Customer Care Team.
We are here to ensure that every superhero has an amazing and inclusive experience at Camp 123-Shine!
